Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis Li) is an oil-producing plant, native to the amazon rivers of Peru. The oil extract from Sacha Inchi are traditionally used by the Inca (Indians of Peru) to prepare various meals. Due to many of its highly nutritious properties, Sacha Inchi has been cultivated for commercial purposes.
Major components of Sacha Inchi

- 40-50% of alpha-linolenic acid or ALA (omega 3)
- 30-40% of linoleic acid (omega 6)

Human studies on the benefit of Sacha Inchi
Consumption of Sacha Inchi resulted in reduction of cholesterol level in patients with dyslipidemia. Patients were asked to consume Sacha Inchi 5-10 ml for 4 months which resulted in reduction of LDL cholesterol and increment of HDL, (ref 4)
A placebo-controlled study on the effect of Sacha Inchi on cognitive function reveal that 15 patients who received 5 soft gels equivalent to 1,75 grams of Sacha Inchi oil for 35 days had increase cognitive function in the part of attention and memory compared to the placebo group (ref 5)
